Addis Ababa, October 8, 2026 (ENA)—Temesgen Tiruneh has been elected Deputy Prime Minister as Ethiopia moves to formally establish its new Medemer Government.

His election followed Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s presentation of Cabinet nominees to the House of Peoples’ Representatives as the 1st regular session of the 7th House, in its first year of tenure, continues in Addis Ababa.

Prime Minister Abiy presented members of his Cabinet to the House as part of the constitutional process to establish the new federal government following the Seventh General Election.

The formation of the Medemer Government marks the beginning of a new five-year political and institutional chapter for Ethiopia, following the opening of the newly elected Parliament and the appointment of Abiy Ahmed for a second term as Prime Minister.

Temesgen, who previously served as Deputy Prime Minister, has played a key role in coordinating government affairs and advancing national development priorities. His reappointment comes as the new administration takes shape under the Medemer political framework.

The parliamentary proceedings are advancing the formal establishment of the federal executive, laying the institutional foundation for the government’s next five-year term.
